The MoniTurb-C-S process turbidity sensor is an inline measuring system designed for the precise detection of turbidity in liquids. Using the 90° light scattering principle, it delivers reliable and highly accurate measurement results, even at very low particle concentrations. Its robust construction and low maintenance requirements make the system ideal for continuous monitoring and process control in industrial applications.
The MoniTurb-C-S operates using the 90° side-scattered light principle (nephelometry). A light source in the NIR or full-spectrum range (approx. 380–1100 nm) projects a parallel beam through the process medium. Suspended particles scatter the light, and a silicon photodiode detector positioned at 90° measures the intensity of the scattered light, which is proportional to the particle concentration.
A ratio measurement of scattered light and transmitted light compensates for changes in product colour, fouling of the measuring windows and ageing of the light source, ensuring stable and reliable measurements. Depending on the application and calibration, the sensor accurately measures low to medium turbidity levels and can be calibrated in a wide range of units, including ppm, NTU and EBC.
The MoniTurb-C-S sensor is designed for low maintenance and long service life. Integrated compensation for product colour changes and fouling of the measuring windows ensures stable and reliable measurements during continuous operation. High-quality components, including a long-life NIR LED with a typical service life of up to 5 years, or an optional gas-filled measuring lamp with a service life of 1–2 years, provide dependable long-term performance.
The robust measuring cell is manufactured from stainless steel 1.4404 with sapphire measuring windows, allowing reliable operation under demanding process conditions at temperatures up to 140°C and pressures up to PN16 / ANSI Class 150. Flexible process connections, including DIN, ANSI and NPT, together with various material options, enable adaptation to a wide range of applications. An optional ATEX-certified Ex version allows safe operation in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas.

The Model C1 Signal Amplifier is compatible with most optical sensors from the Monitek and Chemtronic product ranges. System programming and calibration are carried out via a PC or laptop using intuitive menu-driven software. Calibration can be performed with one or multiple reference samples. All configuration settings and calibration data can be securely stored on the PC’s hard drive for backup and future use.
The Messenger (MSG) Signal Amplifier is compatible with all optical sensors from the Chemtronic and Monitek product series. It allows users to operate up to four single-channel sensors simultaneously. Independent operation of different sensors is also supported without any limitations. The measurement results from the individual sensors can be linked and processed in virtually any combination, enabling applications such as the straightforward implementation of dosing systems.
The system is configured and operated via a PC or laptop using intuitive menu-driven software. As an option, the Messenger is also available with an integrated panel PC for standalone operation.
