FLUCOmat is a monitoring system designed for the detection of oil on water surfaces. Using the principle of fluorescence, it continuously detects even small traces of oil with high sensitivity. This enables early identification of contamination on water surfaces, even under fluctuating water levels.
The device operates based on the fluorescence principle. The water surface is illuminated with UV light. If oil is present on the water surface, the hydrocarbons in the oil begin to fluoresce. The sensor detects this fluorescent light emitted by the oil. This phenomenon is known as fluorescence.
The fluorescence signal is evaluated by the sensor as an oil signal. To further increase the system’s sensitivity, the reflected light can also be detected in addition to the fluorescence signal. This enables the system to achieve an exceptionally high level of sensitivity, allowing it to reliably detect even trace amounts of oil on the water surface in the µl range.
For optimum operation, the sensor must maintain a constant distance from the water surface. Larger fluctuations in the water level can be compensated for using pontoons or the ultrasonic-controlled NiveauTron level adjustment system. A bypass chamber allows continuous flow-through measurements as well as calibration in ppm or mg/l.
The FLUCOmat continuously monitors oil films and organic traces on water surfaces without requiring any intervention in the process. It provides stable and highly accurate measurement results while automatically compensating for variations in temperature, color, and flow conditions. As a result, changes can be detected at an early stage, process control can be optimized, and the quality of the water or process medium can be reliably maintained.

Fixed installation
Fixed installation is a simple method for mounting the sensor. The sensor can be installed either on a mounting frame or on a pivot arm. Maintaining a constant water level is essential. For optimum measurement results, the water level should not fluctuate by more than ±4 cm.
Pontoon installation
Pontoon installation provides a simple solution for compensating changes in the water level. The floating pontoons keep the sensor at a constant distance above the water surface. This ensures reliable measurements regardless of fluctuations in the water level.
Chain Hoist Positioning System
The ultrasonic-controlled chain hoist raises or lowers the sensor to maintain a constant distance from the water surface. This solution is particularly useful where installation space is limited.
In addition to the chain hoist, the sensor is guided by a mechanical rail system. The guide rails are mounted to the shaft wall and prevent the sensor from tilting or jamming during operation.
Bypass Chamber Installation
The sensor is installed on a bypass chamber. A skimmer floats on the water surface and ensures that the self-priming pump continuously draws surface water into the bypass chamber. Floating oil is transported together with the water into the chamber. The chamber’s free outlet maintains a constant water level, ensuring that the sensor always remains at the optimum distance from the water surface.
The FLUCOmat measuring system consists of a sensor and a signal processing unit. The signal processing unit reliably evaluates the measurement signals from the FLUCOmat sensor and can be calibrated to meet the specific requirements of the application.
The system is designed for the continuous monitoring of oil on water surfaces and is built for reliable long-term operation in demanding industrial environments.
